What operating systems does AXEL work on?2020-05-25T09:59:27+00:00

AXEL works on Windows, macOSAndroid, and iOS. You can also access the AXEL platform from any web browser.

For desktops and laptops, AXEL’s Tack App will run on macOS and Windows. We also have mobile apps for iOS and Android. We’re working on a Linux version of Tack App too. For additional information please visit the Downloads page.

Why can’t I tack the iOS app?2020-05-13T17:12:39+00:00

iOS is a little harder to develop for because of the controls put in place at the provider and client end of the Apple network. It’s far more difficult to configure our software to conform with Apple policies and license agreements. We are still working on it, but until we’ve created a stable version of the iOS App with the tacking feature, please feel free to use our Tack App for macOS.

What does it mean to Tack?2020-05-13T17:12:39+00:00

The word “tack” is used as a substitute for connecting a device to AXEL. So if you tack your Android phone then your phone and its contents will become available in AXEL. You can tack and untack a device freely.

What if I don’t want to leave my computer on all the time?2020-05-13T17:12:39+00:00

You can always use the File Mirror feature, which uses your online storage to make a file available when your tacked device is offline. Alternatively, you could get an Android TV box and use it to create an always-on cloud device. They are fairly inexpensive, low powered, and have USB ports to allow you to increase your storage space.

How secure is this?2020-05-13T17:12:39+00:00

Really secure. All of our connections are run via HTTPS using the latest TLS 1.2 security keys to lock everything down (TLS is better than SSL). Plus, when you share a file, you can engage the privacy settings so that only a known AXEL contact will be able to access the share. Need more security? You can use our patented 2-Factor Authentication which gives an additional layer of security when you access files through AXEL or use our Secure Share feature when you share files (only available on the AXEL Pro plan).

How much does AXEL cost?2020-05-13T17:12:40+00:00

AXEL Go is a free plan, so nothing. We have a The AXEL Pro plan with additional features for $5/month or $50/year. You can also purchase additional online storage if you need more space.

Where are my files stored?2020-05-13T17:12:40+00:00

It depends. Because you’re in control, your files are stored where you put them. This is what’s great about AXEL. You can store a file on your computer, smartphone, tablet, an Android TV box, or even on our cloud storage and then access them from anywhere.

What are your data retention policies?2020-05-13T17:18:30+00:00

Our policy is we don’t retain your data. Once you delete a file or cancel your account it’s all gone forever.

How do I cancel my account?2020-09-11T07:41:46+00:00

Please contact us first to see if we can work with you. If we can’t work it out, just email us at support@axel.org.

What if I accidently share the wrong folder?2020-05-13T17:18:30+00:00

Oh no, you broke it. Just kidding, you can always shut down your device as a quick fix, or login to your AXEL account and remove the share.

Does AXEL track file transfers or streaming?2020-05-13T17:18:30+00:00

We don’t want to be tracked, so we don’t track you.

What happens to my data after I delete it?2020-05-13T17:18:30+00:00

It’s gone. Forever. Which is awesome. That’s why you’re using AXEL, right? We know that when you want something deleted you mean TOTALLY deleted so you don’t have to worry about copies that can haunt you down the road.

What happens if my Tacked computer turns off?2020-05-13T17:18:30+00:00

Turning the computer off severs the connection with AXEL, so when you’re your computer is offline AXEL can no longer access the tacked files.

What’s my storage limit?2020-05-13T17:18:30+00:00

It really depends on the hardware that you have. Do you have a 256 GB phone tacked to your AXEL account? Then the answer is 256 GB. If you also tack a computer with 1 TB then you’re now up to 1.256 TB of storage. It’s totally up to you. You can tack up to 3 devices on our free AXEL Go plan. Additionally, we give you 2GB of Online Storage as an extra storage option but it’s not necessary to use that to use AXEL.
